Hey, my name is Luis Gonzales but you can call me Lou and im a c5-c6 quadriplegic. I was in a diving accident May 19th of 2010 that left me paralyzed from my chest down. If you can imagine this was, to say the least, kinda of a let down haha. I had nowhere to go so my sister told me no worries I could stay with her (shes a total G). My injury requires a lot of care and if you cant do it yourself this falls on to your family or caretakers. NOONE wants to be a burden and even though my sister and her partner took care of me because they wanted to I hated being dependent so I made it my goal to become 100% independent (Im such a boss). On the road to independence you tend to have a lot of free time so I want to share what I have learned not just with quads but anyone willing to get up and do something. Hopefully my posts and videos can help quads help themselves or give therapists ideas on how to help their patients. Peace & Love.

What a sweet, articulate, inspiring man!
It's been ages...where have you been? Can you do a day in the life-type thing?
Hey! I’m still here just super busy with work. I work full time at a substance abuse residential facility while also running a private practice. A day in the life is a great idea though! I will definitely think about it. Hope all is well.
@@luisguillermohope all is well with you as well. I hope you can find time to do a catch up video. It sounds as if you really made a name for yourself. Your parents are probably super proud.
You Are Amazing ❤
Hello Bro Where can I buy this modification of the gas brake and a twist wheel on the steering wheel?
Hey! Where are you located? You would have to find out who the vendors are in your area that work on car modifications. You could also just Google tri pin, spinner knob for steering wheel. There are more basic forms of the hand controls you could buy by just googling Wheelchair hand controls. But the ones I have I got through a vendor so they’re a little more Customized. If you let me know where you are located, I’ll try to help find the vendor.

Greetings from DeFuniak! I hope you are doing super good now.
Thanks, Luis. I use your transfer video to help my PTA students learn how to teach transfers. Your videos help a lot of people.
Proud of you. Liked the fact that you said," you had to take care of yourself before helping others" true inspiration ❤

Brother, this is a great video. Thank you for sharing all the wisdom and encouragement. I have been a physical therapist for 20 years with the last eight years only treating spinal cord and traumatic brain injury and I don’t think I’ve seen a better video on transfers. I can count the number of UA-cam channels I have subscribed to on one hand and yours is definitely subscribe to. Thanks for sharing. Look forward to seeing more videos from you.
I'm debating on buying the quad tool.i would like to see more Videos like this 👍🏾
Let me know if there's anything specific you would like to see and I'll try my best to squeeze a video in.
Hey, I’m from Peru living in NJ, I’ll like to talk to you if you have time
Hey! send me your contact info either through a youtube dm or on instagram and we'll make it happen. My insta is in the description.
Hello how are you? Bro, I'm quadriplegic, I live in Brazil and I would like to know information about this shower chair. I need to buy one of these for myself...
Hey! Doing well. Look up 'go mobility solutions shower chair' and you should be able to find this one. I will say that the one side downside is that it's pretty heavy compared to some alternatives. My next travel shower chair will be something different because of this. Besides that it's super sturdy and it has lasted me for years.
@@luisguillermo Good night my brother! Bro, once again I'm contacting you to ask you to do a great job for your quadriplegic brother. I am in need of a bowel stimulator and a suppository inserter. Unfortunately, here in Brazil, I can't find a store that can sell it, but I found it on a website in the United States, but unfortunately they only deliver to American territory. Could you buy both and send it to me here in Brazil???
your an absolute warrior and a goddam legend i wish you nothing but the best my friend
🙏
How did you open up the strawberry jam 😋
I hold it to the side of my stomach with one hand and use my rubber glove to twist it open. Use a towel. Can’t promise that it won’t end in a huge mess 😅.
😂😂 thanks right trial and error
Great video thankyou Luis!
Great video people that learn from u will be very gratefull we never know what will happen in our lives, thanks!
Hi 👋 I know this video is kind of old, and it's about your bowel program, but I have an unrelated question. Please don't think I'm being rude, I'm just curious and don't know much about what you deal with health wise. I noticed that your left hand (wrist and fingers) are kind of "curled". I recently watched a girls video and she is paralyzed (spinal cord injury), and she said she sleeps with these arm/wrist/finger pads/braces on to keep her wrists and fingers from permanently "curling" (to keep her fingers from closing and forming a permanent fist). I don't know what the brace/pad/cast thing is called, but I thought if I explained it you would know what I mean. Anyway, do you use/sleep with anything on your arms/wrists/fingers to keep them from permanently "curling"/making a fist. I was just curious and wanted to ask. I hope you don't think I am being rude. If you are not comfortable answering my question I completely understand and respect you. I hope you're doing well and I really enjoy how informative your videos are ❤️
Hey I don't think it's rude at all. I do use finger splints occasionally and also stretch my fingers out when I can but you have to get to a point where if you're not getting any function back in your hands sometimes the curling can be a positive thing. It helps with holding onto things. If your fingers are completely loose everything just falls out of your hand. Gotta work with what you have sometimes. I hope that answers your question and I hope you are doing well also.
@@luisguillermo thank you so much for answering my questions. I had no idea that the finger curling could be a good thing, so thank you for educating me. I really appreciate you and the time you took to read my comment and reply to me. I hope you have a wonderful day 💗
I think it's so great that you are making these videos! I teach in a physical therapist assistant program and this would be great to show students! Can I share your videos for this reason?
Thank you. And of course, go ahead.
Thanks for sharing..hopefully it'll help
Hopefully your apartment had completed necessary ADA accommodations
They did what they could. The law here excludes accommodations on buildings before a certain year so I was grateful they did what they did.

Awesome video, thank you for educating us Luis! I am about to take my OT board exam and this was helpful since I am a visual learner.
Good luck!
@@luisguillermo Thank you, I appreciate it!
Late to this party, I'm a T6 para, having that door length is a HUGE deal, but so is the height. Couldn't get in my brother's 2016 camaro, but I could get into an early 2000s trans-am (barely). Corvettes are out unless you get a convertible and only drive it in weather where you can open the top. (hard top convertibles are great for summer, but most of us don't have that disposable cash). The bmw 335 series works for my Quickie S7 but the 325 series is too small, the Genesis Coupe is an option, as well as the Infinity G37, and a couple others i'm sure i'm missing. My daily driver is my trusty old 2000 Honda V6 Coupe. It has some dents and dings which make it much easier to transfer in and just not care about the little nicks that end up in the door sill paint. I wish I could get in a Civic, but the seat doesn't go back enough for me to fit the frame in.
It really is! Thanks for adding so much more info. I did these videos because of how much other UA-cam videos and online resources helped me. Pass it on bro.
Amazing! ✨😊🦋
So you weren't clear...did you have the second surgery?
I did. Although sometimes I wish I had that little bit of range of motion back.
Hi I have a question how long time it takes for you to hold things? because my for my husband is very hard he uses to do exercises almost every day
I believe this might be different for everybody. I know that my spasms have made it so my fingers are stiffer than normal and that makes it easier for me to place things between my fingers for holding onto smaller items. I tried my best in this video to show different ways of holding onto things because I know others don't have the same luxury. In those cases I would recommend getting one of the tools to grab onto things.
